Kathmandu: The Election Commission (EC) has added 837,094 new voters to the electoral roll following the announcement of fresh elections to the House of Representatives on September 12.

The updated figure was released after the extended deadline for voter registration and revision officially ended at midnight on Wednesday.

According to EC spokesperson Narayan Prasad Bhattarai, a total of 344,914 new voters registered through biometric enrollment—using photographs and fingerprints—while an additional 492,180 registered using their National ID. The option to register through National ID was introduced later but saw a surge in participation, significantly boosting overall registrations.

The EC also noted that online registration increased after National ID–based verification was enabled.

Prime Minister Sushila Karki wrote on social media that the voter list collection process had been completed, including the tally of newly registered voters. As of Kartik 16, the number of citizens who had reached 18 years of age stood at 18,168,023.

The initial deadline for voter registration had been set for Kartik 30, but amid rising demand and requests from stakeholders, the Commission extended it until Kartik5, concluding the final registration window last night.
