Kathmandu: The Election Commission has released the Civic Education Promotion Resource Booklet for Election Programs, 2082, targeting the upcoming elections and aiming to strengthen public awareness on electoral processes.
Focus on Free and Fair Elections
Prepared under the slogan “Expansion of Election Education and Information as the Infrastructure for Free and Fair Elections,” the booklet primarily targets social studies teachers. The Commission has made the resource publicly accessible through its official website.
Seven Chapters Covering Key Electoral Themes
The booklet is divided into seven chapters. The opening chapter introduces democracy and the constitution, while the second and third chapters explain elections, political party arrangements, electoral systems, and inclusiveness.
Voting Process and Election Cycle Explained
The fourth chapter details the election cycle, voting procedures, the concept of ‘No Vote’ (NOTA), and vote counting.
Management, Laws and Citizen Responsibilities
Subsequent chapters address election management bodies, legal provisions, codes of conduct, and monitoring mechanisms. The final chapter outlines the roles and responsibilities of election stakeholders, citizens’ rights and duties, and practical aspects such as teachers’ roles in elections and visits to Election Information Centers.
