Kathmandu: The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MoCIT) has addressed the issue of the removal of the term "Bharatki" from the Hindi film "Adipurush" before obtaining permission from the Censor Board of Nepal for its release in Nepal.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the Ministry clarified that it had instructed the Censor Board of Nepal to remove the word "Bharatki" from the film "Adipurush" before granting permission for its release.

The Ministry acknowledged the concerns raised through various media outlets regarding the use of the term "Bharatki" in the dialogue, which portrayed Janaki, the national figure of Nepal, as the daughter of India in the film "Adipurush."

On June 15, when the Central Film Screening Committee reviewed the film, they requested the removal of the word "Bharatki" from the dialogue before granting permission for the film's public screening, as stated in the issued statement by Bishal Sapkota, Assistant Spokesperson of the MoCIT.

According to the statement, the Central Film Screening Committee received the recommendation for the screening of the film "Adipurush" on June 12. The film was subsequently approved for showing in cinemas in accordance with the provisions of the Motion Picture (Production, Exhibition, and Distribution) Act-2026 BS and the related regulations.

It appears that the MoCIT and the Censor Board of Nepal took the necessary steps to address the concerns raised regarding the dialogue in the film, ensuring compliance with the regulatory requirements before granting permission for its release.
