Kathmandu: The ruling coalition's top leadership has collectively decided against the establishment of a high-level probe commission to investigate the recent gold scam, marking a stance contrary to the main opposition CPN (UML)'s demand. The decision was reached during a meeting convened at the official residence of the Prime Minister on Monday, where current political matters were deliberated.

The meeting yielded a consensus that there was no imperative need to create a high-level probe commission to address the recent gold scam. The primary reason cited for this decision was the ongoing investigation being conducted by the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of the Nepal Police. Ramesh Lekhak, Chief Whip of the Nepali Congress, explained that instituting such a commission might hinder the CIB's ongoing efforts and potentially divert the focus from the issue at hand.

"The meeting concluded that the call for a high-level probe commission is an attempt to obstruct the ongoing investigation and deflect attention," Lekhak remarked while briefing the media about the meeting.

Lekhak added that investigations were actively in progress regarding the alleged involvement of Krishna Bahadur Mahara, former Speaker and Spokesperson of the CPN (Maoist Centre), in the gold scam. The meeting also touched upon the Gaur massacre, emphasizing that the government should bring the Gaur massacre case to a lawful resolution.

Moreover, the discussions extended to the Lalita Niwas land scam, with an assurance that the truth behind the scandal would be unveiled in due course. The high-profile gathering included notable figures such as Chairperson of the CPN (Maoist Centre) and Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda', Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba, CPN (Unified Socialist) Chairman Madhav Kumar Nepal, and Mahantha Thakur, Chairperson of the Loktantrik Samajbadi Party.

The decision taken by the ruling coalition underscores their commitment to the ongoing investigation and their resolve to ensure that the issue of the recent gold scam is thoroughly addressed within the existing legal framework.
