Kathmandu: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' delivered a speech during the 78th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on September 21. In his address, the PM emphasized Nepal's commitment to concluding its unique, nationally owned, and home-grown peace process.

Transitional Justice: PM Prachanda expressed his commitment to completing the remaining task of transitional justice, making it a top priority. He highlighted his efforts to bridge gaps and build consensus among key stakeholders. An Amendment Bill related to transitional justice has been tabled in the Federal Parliament to address victims' concerns and ensure a balanced approach between peace, justice, and reparation. The proposed Bill takes a victim-centric approach and recognizes reparation as a victim's right. PM Prachanda affirmed that there would be no blanket amnesty for serious human rights violations.

Peace and Reconciliation: The PM reiterated Nepal's goal of establishing enduring peace and fostering social harmony through peace, justice, and reconciliation. He called on the international community to support and recognize Nepal's successful conflict transformation.

Political Progress: PM Prachanda highlighted Nepal's political achievements over the past fifteen years, including a nationally led peace process, the promulgation of a democratic Constitution in 2015, and successful federal, provincial, and local elections. He emphasized increased participation of women, dalits, youth, and under-represented communities at all levels of governance in Nepal.

The Prime Minister's address at UNGA reaffirmed Nepal's commitment to peace, justice, and democracy while seeking international support and recognition for the country's achievements and challenges.
