Janakpurdham: Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba expressed dissatisfaction with the current electoral system, attributing it to the formation of alliance governments instead of single-party majorities. He argued that the existing electoral system, designed for inclusion and proportional representation, hinders the possibility of forming a single-party majority government, necessitating coalitions.

Deuba conveyed these views during the inaugural session of the first Madhes convention of the Nepali Congress held in Janakpurdham on Thursday. He underscored the importance of unity within the party to fortify the new system, emphasizing that a robust party contributes to the strength of the overall political framework.

The NC President stressed the need for both the Nepali Congress and Madhes to be resilient in defending recent achievements, such as federalism and inclusion. Additionally, Vice President of the party and Defense Minister Purna Bahadur Khadka assured that the concerns of the Madhes province government regarding the implementation of federalism would be addressed promptly. He mentioned that although the NC had proposed constitutional amendments to address Madhes-centric parties' concerns, cooperation from other political parties was lacking.

Law Minister and another Vice President of the party, Dhan Raj Gurung, informed that the process of drafting laws necessary for the enforcement of federalism had commenced. General Secretary Thapa highlighted the responsibility of the NC to restore people's faith in governance, acknowledging the recent challenges of bad governance affecting the public. General Secretary Bishwo Prakash Sharma emphasized the importance of Madhes smiling for the entire country to prosper.

Various other leaders also addressed the program, discussing key issues and strategies for the party's future endeavors.
