Kathmandu: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' has underscored the government's dedication to laying the groundwork for prosperity and ensuring respect for labor by giving priority to manufacturing and employment in the upcoming fiscal year's policies, programs, and budget.

In his message to Nepali workers at home and abroad on International Labour Day, Prime Minister Dahal highlighted the implementation of a contribution-based social security program aimed at safeguarding the welfare of workers, both domestically and internationally, as well as those engaged in the government, semi-government, and social sectors.

Emphasizing that the Constitution of Nepal enshrines labor rights as fundamental rights, Dahal affirmed that the constitution guarantees workers the right to form trade unions, unite for their causes, and engage in collective bargaining to protect and advance their rights.

Acknowledging the working class as the cornerstone of the state's multifaceted development, the Prime Minister asserted that true equality, dignity, social justice, and prosperity can only be achieved when the rights and welfare of the working class are ensured.

He further stated, "The Constitution of Nepal has embraced the welfare of workers, and it is our vital responsibility to translate these constitutional provisions into action."

Reaffirming the government's commitment to International Labour Organization conventions and other labor-related agreements ratified by Nepal, Dahal assured continuous efforts to create adequate employment opportunities domestically to stem brain drain among the youth and skilled human resources.

Highlighting the need to enhance the safety, dignity, and regulation of the foreign employment sector until sufficient opportunities are available domestically, the Prime Minister stressed the importance of leveraging the knowledge, skills, and energy of the youth for the country's greater good.

Extending his wishes to workers worldwide, he expressed satisfaction with the increasing unity, capability, professionalism, and maintenance of professional dignity among Nepali workers, trade unions, and organizations.

Prime Minister Dahal expressed confidence that the day would inspire everyone to further establish the rights of workers.

International Labour Day, observed on May 1 worldwide, commemorates the workers' movement in Chicago, USA, in 1886, which called for respect and rights for workers.
