Kathmandu: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' asserted that the government has undertaken significant initiatives benefiting the nation and its citizens, speaking at the 27th General Convention of the Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ).
Emphasizing his commitment to pursuing actions that benefit the country and its people, the PM emphasized the government's track record of bold and pro-people endeavors, destined to be remembered in history.
Dahal lauded the positive economic improvements achieved amidst crisis, dispelling narratives of an impending economic collapse akin to that of Sri Lanka. He noted improvements in indicators such as balance of payments, foreign exchange reserves, remittance income, and revenue collection, attributing them to consistent fiscal and monetary policies fostering an investment-friendly environment.
The PM highlighted recent reductions in bank interest rates, efforts to address microfinance and cooperative issues, and enhanced public institution management. He underscored the tourism sector's growth, marked by a significant rise in tourist arrivals.
In matters of governance, Dahal cited investigations into scandals like the Bhutanese refugee scam, Lalita Niwas land grab, and gold smuggling, resulting in justice for wrongdoers. He also noted strides in social justice, including timely textbook distribution to over 5.5 million schoolchildren, fertilizer provision to farmers, and hospital beds allocated for underprivileged citizens.
Additionally, Dahal highlighted achievements in international relations, citing long-term electricity trade agreements with India and Bangladesh, along with a focus on domestic electricity production, as indicators of Nepal's promising economic future.
