Kathmandu: Nepali Congress (NC) General Secretary Gagan Kumar Thapa announced that the party would remain in opposition until the next election in 2084 BS. Thapa emphasized that the NC would continue to play an active and vibrant role in parliament as the opposition.

Speaking at an interaction program titled 'NC's Role in Present Politics,' organized by the ward committee of NC Kathmandu Metropolis-3, Thapa stated that although the five-party alliance formed during the 2079 general election had dissolved due to changing circumstances, the NC is now focused on consolidating its party organization while in opposition. He highlighted the urgency of rebuilding the party over the next three years.

"NC does not want to involve in making and breaking coalitions anymore. People's needs and aspirations are its priorities," Thapa stressed. He also emphasized that the court and constitutional commissions should not be misused by the government or those in power.

Thapa mentioned that the NC would take initiatives to restore normalcy to the national economy. He acknowledged that while the NC had won in 332 local levels, some of these areas had not yet received the necessary publicity and visibility. He urged party leaders and cadres to engage with the public and discuss future work plans. The upcoming party meeting is expected to make decisions regarding sister wings, Thapa informed.

Lawmaker Pradip Paudel added that the party needs to formulate strategies that resonate with the public, given their increasing awareness. "Public relations are crucial for strengthening the organization. People's needs must be addressed moving forward," he advised the leadership. He also mentioned that the NC would vociferously raise the issue of Giribandhu Tea Estate, following a court verdict, similarly to how the party has addressed cooperative fraud cases.

Bagmati Province member Ramesh Kumar Khadka emphasized the importance of strengthening the party organization to secure a major victory in the next election. Additionally, Gokarna KC, Vice Chairman of the party in Kathmandu district, suggested that the party's positive achievements should be communicated to the public.
