Myagdi: Two Polish climbers, Bartek Ziemski and Oswald Rodrigo Pereria, have successfully reached the summit of Dhaulagiri, the seventh highest mountain in the world. They reached the summit at 7:30 AM on Tuesday, May 17, 2023.

Dhaulagiri is located in the Dhaulagiri Himal sub-range of the Himalayas, in the Myagdi District of Nepal. It is 8,167 meters (26,795 feet) tall, making it the highest mountain in Nepal and the seventh highest mountain in the world.

Ziemski and Pereria are the first climbers to reach the summit of Dhaulagiri this season. They are also the first climbers to reach the summit without the help of Sherpa guides.

The Department of Tourism in Nepal has issued permits to 24 male and 11 female climbers to attempt to climb Dhaulagiri this season. Seven Summit Treks, a Nepal-based trekking company, is facilitating the expeditions of 26 climbers.

The first successful ascent of Dhaulagiri was made on May 13, 1960, by a Swiss-Austrian-Nepalese expedition led by Max Eiselin. The team included Kurt Diemberger, Peter Diener, Ernst Forrer, Albin Schelbert, Nawang Dorje, and Nima Dorje.

Ziemski and Pereria's ascent of Dhaulagiri is a major achievement. It is a testament to their skill, determination, and fitness. It is also a reminder of the beauty and challenge of the Himalayas.
