Kathmandu: Nepali Congress Chief Whip Ramesh Lekhak has criticized the government for not keeping Parliament informed about the severe impact of relentless rains across the country. Speaking during the 'urgent time' in the House of Representatives (HoR) meeting today, Lekhak highlighted that 74 people have died, six are missing, and 86 have been injured due to landslides, flooding, and inundation, with physical losses amounting to millions.

Lekhak expressed frustration that he had to rely on newspapers to report these losses to the House, lamenting the government's failure to brief Parliament on the monsoon-triggered disasters. "It is regrettable that the government has not informed the Parliament about the losses caused by the monsoon-triggered disasters," he stated.

The Chief Whip also noted the government's current focus on securing a vote of confidence. "Let the government take the full 30 days for this; there is no objection. But the government should be accountable to the Parliament as long as it exists," he asserted.

He urged the government to quickly provide relief to those affected by the floods and to commence rehabilitation efforts. Lekhak specifically mentioned that people displaced by floods, landslides, and inundation are forced to live in the open in various districts, including Kanchanpur. He called for immediate assistance to be provided to those affected by the disasters.
