Chicago: Former President Barack Obama told Democrats on Tuesday that the United States is ready for Kamala Harris to assume the presidency, declaring that "the torch has been passed" to the current Vice President.
Speaking at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, Obama received an enthusiastic reception as he endorsed Harris as the party's candidate. "Kamala Harris is ready for the job. This is a person who has spent her life fighting for people who need a voice," he said.
Obama praised Harris for her dedication to public service, saying, "She is someone who sees you and hears you and will get up every single day and fight for you." His endorsement of Harris was met with chants of "Yes she can," a nod to his own famous 2008 campaign slogan, "Yes we can."
The event, filled with energy and optimism, also featured former First Lady Michelle Obama, who expressed her support for Harris and the sense of hope she believes the Vice President embodies. "Something magically wonderful is in the air," Michelle Obama said, referring to the renewed hope she feels in Harris's candidacy.
The convention follows President Joe Biden's emotional farewell speech on Monday, in which he endorsed Harris as his successor, marking a significant moment in the Democratic Party's leadership transition.
