Kathmandu: Authorities anticipate that around 1.8 million people will leave the Kathmandu Valley during the upcoming festival season, according to the Nepal Police. This marks an increase of 500,000 compared to last year, when approximately 1.3 million people left the valley for the Dashain festival.

Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office Spokesperson Bishwaraj Khadka stated that the estimate depends on favorable weather conditions. To address safety concerns, consultations with relevant stakeholders are underway to reduce road accidents, which are often caused by poor road quality, overcrowded vehicles, and high-speed driving.

Khadka further noted that an integrated security plan is being developed in coordination with all three districts of the valley to enhance road safety and minimize accidents during the festive period.
