Kathmandu: The CPN (UML) has expressed its commitment to ensuring the success of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s upcoming visit to China, emphasizing the importance of fulfilling Nepal’s national interests.
Speaking after a secretariat meeting at the party's central office in Chyasal, Lalitpur, Deputy General Secretary Pradeep Gyawali said the party aims to make the visit productive by focusing on implementing agreements signed during past high-level exchanges between Nepal and China.
Gyawali added that the visit would prioritize issues of bilateral interest and explore ways to strengthen Nepal-China relations. "This visit will ensure maximum national interest of Nepal while addressing shared priorities with China," he noted.
The meeting also reviewed the government’s performance over the last four months, concluding that it had been running smoothly. Gyawali highlighted that a mechanism had been formed to enhance coordination between the Nepali Congress and UML for collaborative governance.
On electoral preparations, the UML announced its decision to contest the December 1 by-elections independently while maintaining the possibility of local-level cooperation with other political parties. The party approved the candidacy of Dr. Surendra Manandhar for Kirtipur Municipality Mayor and several other nominees for rural municipalities in Morang, Dolakha, and Rukum Purba districts.
The UML secretariat also endorsed actions taken by the Koshi Province committee against former Internal Affairs Minister Lilaballabh Adhikari, relieving him of all party responsibilities and membership amid allegations against him. Gyawali assured that the party would cooperate fully with investigations into the charges.
Additionally, the party expressed condolences over the passing of its central adviser, Devi Pokhrel, and called on its members to ensure the success of an upcoming awareness rally organized by its Kathmandu Valley committees on November 22.
