Heavy Rainfall Forecast in Western Nepal: Public Urged to Remain Cautious

Kathmandu: The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has warned of heavy rainfall today in parts of Gandaki, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim provinces, as the monsoon system continues to actively affect Nepal. The monsoon low-pressure line remains close to the mean position, increasing the risk of intense weather events.
Rain and Thunderstorms Across the Country
This afternoon, the weather will be partly to generally cloudy nationwide. Light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning is likely in Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, and other hilly areas of the country. One or two areas in Gandaki, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim may experience heavy rainfall, and some high hill and mountainous areas may receive snowfall.
Tonight’s Forecast
The cloudy conditions will persist through the night. Light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning is expected in the hilly areas of Koshi, Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim, along with a chance of heavy rain in Koshi, Gandaki, Lumbini, and Sudurpaschim provinces. Snowfall is also likely in high-altitude areas.
Risk of Natural Disasters
The division has issued warnings of floods, landslides, and flash floods in the affected areas. Urban flooding is possible in Terai and low-lying regions, and the public is strongly advised to remain alert.
The Department urges the public and concerned agencies to:
-Remain cautious in flood-prone and landslide-prone zones
-Monitor rising water levels in rivers and streams
-Prepare for disruptions in transportation, agriculture, health services, and tourism
-Avoid unnecessary travel, especially in vulnerable areas
Authorities emphasize that necessary precautions and preparations should be taken immediately to minimize damage and ensure safety.
