Kathmandu: The Election Commission has issued the Election Code of Conduct, 2082 to ensure that the upcoming election of members of the House of Representatives, scheduled for Falgun 21, is conducted in a free, fair and transparent manner.

According to the Commission, the new code introduces stricter provisions aimed at preventing the misuse of state resources and promoting dignified and disciplined election campaigning.

Restrictions on Government and Public Bodies
Under the code of conduct, government, semi-government and public bodies are strictly prohibited from working in favor of or against any political party or candidate. The use of government-funded vehicles, buildings, guest houses or any other state-owned property for election purposes has been completely banned.

The code also prohibits organizing political meetings, rallies or campaign activities within the premises of schools, universities and other public institutions.

Ban on Flamboyant Campaign Materials
The Commission has barred candidates from using flashy or extravagant propaganda materials. The production and distribution of items such as jackets, T-shirts, caps, masks, lockets, bags or tattoos bearing party symbols have been prohibited.

In addition, candidates must obtain written consent from house or landowners before conducting door-to-door or location-based campaigning.

Social Media Use and Protection of Children
Taking into account challenges posed by the digital age, the code states that the spread of false, misleading or hateful content on social media platforms will be treated as a violation of the election code of conduct.

The Commission has also imposed a complete ban on the use of children in any election-related activities, including campaigning.

The Election Commission has warned that strict action will be taken against individuals or institutions found violating the code of conduct during the election period.
