Over 600,000 Foreign Tourists Visit Nepal in the First Eight Months of 2023

Kathmandu: In the first eight months of 2023, Nepal has welcomed over 600,000 foreign tourists, marking a significant influx of international visitors to the country. According to data from the Nepal Tourism Board, a total of 601,360 tourists from various countries, including India and the United States of America, arrived in Nepal between January and August.

In August alone, Nepal recorded 67,153 visitors, a notable increase compared to the same month in the previous year when the number stood at 41,304. In 2019, August saw 73,814 tourists visiting the country.

Maniraj Lamichhane, Director of the Nepal Tourism Board, highlighted that the trend of increasing tourist arrivals has been observed in recent months. He expressed optimism about Nepal achieving the milestone of one million tourist arrivals by the end of the year, especially with the gradual rise in arrivals from expected source countries.

The breakdown of tourist arrivals in August is as follows:

India: 26,665 visitors
China: 5,007 visitors
United States: 4,629 visitors
Sri Lanka: 3,558 visitors
Bangladesh: 3,190 visitors
United Kingdom: 2,711 visitors
Spain: 1,588 visitors
Japan: 1,520 visitors
Italy: 1,416 visitors
Australia: 1,347 visitors
The data reflects a diverse range of countries contributing to Nepal's tourism industry, with India being the largest source of tourists. The positive trend in tourist arrivals bodes well for Nepal's economy and the tourism sector, indicating the country's continued appeal as a travel destination.
