Kathmandu: The death toll due to natural disasters triggered by this year's monsoon has risen to 128, according to the latest data from the Nepal Police Headquarters. Since the onset of the monsoon on June 10, continuous rains have resulted in numerous floods and landslides across the country, leading to significant casualties and damage.
Police Spokesman Deputy Inspector General Dan Bahadur Karki reported that, in addition to the 128 fatalities, 143 people have been injured. The breakdown of casualties is as follows: two in Kathmandu Valley, 22 in Koshi, five in Madhes, 22 in Bagmati, 38 in Gandaki, 23 in Lumbini, seven in Karnali, and nine in Sudurpaschim Province.
The monsoon has caused severe damage to infrastructure and property. A total of 182 houses have been inundated, while 228 houses, 83 sheds, 43 bridges, one school, and two government offices have been damaged. Additionally, 589 cattle have perished in the disaster.
Furthermore, 3,779 households have been displaced due to the monsoon-induced calamities, highlighting the widespread impact on communities across Nepal.
