Kathmandu: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has reaffirmed his commitment to concluding Nepal's long-pending transitional justice process, ensuring that the conflict-related incidents of the past do not recur. Speaking after receiving a 19-point memorandum from a delegation led by former Prime Minister and Nepal Samajbadi Party coordinator Dr. Baburam Bhattarai on transitional justice issues, PM Oli stressed that Nepal’s unity would not be undermined by ethnic divisions or social discord.

"The people have established a federal democratic republic by ending the monarchy through struggle. We must now strengthen the system to fulfill the people's aspirations for development, prosperity, and stability," Oli remarked. He assured that under his leadership, there would be no anarchy or instability, as witnessed in Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, saying, "As long as I am Prime Minister and chairman of CPN (UML), such incidents will not occur in Nepal."

Oli emphasized his determination to conclude the transitional justice process within his 22-month tenure. He highlighted the passage of the bill related to the Disappeared Persons Enquiry, Truth and Reconciliation Commission as a major step, achieved through extensive initiatives. He also called for support from CPN (Maoist Centre) Chair and former Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' to take the peace process to its conclusion.

Dr. Bhattarai assured that his party would support the government’s efforts to finalize the transitional justice process. The Nepal Samajbadi Party emphasized the need for political consensus and victim-centered truth-seeking, urging transparency and survivor representation in the upcoming reparation process.

The transitional justice process aims to address the atrocities committed during Nepal’s decade-long civil war, and PM Oli’s administration has pledged to bring it to a fair and just conclusion.
