PM Oli to Depart for New York for 79th UN General Assembly

Kathmandu: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli is set to depart for New York today, where he will lead Nepal's delegation at the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). The Prime Minister is scheduled to address the UNGA on September 26, with the General Debate focusing on the theme, "Leaving No One Behind: Acting together for the advancement of peace, sustainable development, and human dignity for present and future generations."

During his visit, PM Oli will attend the opening session of the General Debate on September 24 and a reception hosted by U.S. President Joseph Biden on September 25, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Additionally, PM Oli will represent Nepal as the Chair of the Global Coordination Bureau of Least Developed Countries (LDCs) at the Summit of the Future and address the High-Level Plenary on Sea-Level Rise and a meeting on Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR).

On September 23, PM Oli will deliver a keynote speech at Columbia University titled "Nepal's Journey to Democracy and Economic Prosperity" and, on September 27, speak at Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy Jr. Forum on "Nepal's Perspective: From Transitional Justice to Climate Justice."

The Prime Minister will also meet with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and engage in bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the UNGA.

He will be accompanied by his spouse Radhika Shakya, Foreign Minister Arzu Rana Deuba, Foreign Secretary Sewa Lamsal, and other senior officials. The Prime Minister is expected to return to Kathmandu on September 30.
