Kathmandu: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has issued directives to speed up relief efforts for those affected by recent floods and landslides across 14 districts, including Kathmandu. The disasters, caused by heavy rains on September 27-28, have severely damaged infrastructure, agriculture, and homes.
During the 14th meeting of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management National Council, Oli stressed the urgency of constructing temporary shelters by mid-November and restoring essential services like electricity, healthcare, and water within 15 days.
He called for a thorough assessment of disaster-related losses and proposed organizing a donor conference to secure funds for reconstruction. The Prime Minister also emphasized compensating farmers for agricultural damage and repairing irrigation channels.
Highlighting Nepal's vulnerability to natural disasters, Oli recommended relocating people from high-risk areas and promoting afforestation to prevent landslides. His directives reflect a strong commitment to disaster preparedness, recovery, and the protection of affected communities.
