Kathmandu: Dr. Baburam Bhattarai, Coordinator of the Nepal Samajwadi Party (NSP), has urged pro-change forces in Nepal to form a unified understanding to safeguard the Constitution and strengthen democratic principles.
Addressing a media conference in Kathmandu, the former Prime Minister emphasized the need to preserve achievements such as federalism and the republican system, which he said are the hard-won outcomes of persistent struggle and dedication.
Dr. Bhattarai pointed out that a new political movement emerged due to the inability of established political leaders to translate sacrifices into meaningful development and prosperity aligned with the people's agenda. However, he acknowledged that the newer political forces have struggled to consolidate their strengths effectively.
He suggested that existing political forces, which have historically contributed to democratic gains, should undergo reforms, while newer forces should streamline their agendas to foster national consensus. Dr. Bhattarai stressed that any emerging political force should be "forward-thinking" and open to refining federalism gradually to align with the country’s evolving needs.
The NSP, following its recently concluded policy convention, has scheduled a national convention in Kathmandu for February 7-8, where party leaders and members will discuss strategies for political reform and development.
