Kathmandu: In response to the tragic helicopter crash in Solukhumbu district, the government of Nepal has formed a committee to conduct a thorough investigation. The Council of Ministers, convening at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers at Singha Durbar, expressed deep sadness over the incident and decided to initiate an inquiry.
The ill-fated helicopter, belonging to Manang Air with the call sign 9 NA-MV, was carrying six individuals at the time of the crash. The passengers consisted of five Mexicans and a Nepali pilot. The incident occurred at Lamjura Pass of Likhupike rural municipality-5 in Solukhumbu district.
The helicopter had departed from Surke in Solukhumbu and was en route to Kathmandu on Tuesday morning. However, it lost contact at approximately 10:01 am and was later discovered to have crashed.
The Investigation Committee, tasked with conducting a comprehensive inquiry, will be led by Buddisagar Lamichhane, a Joint-Secretary at the Ministry of Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation. Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Rekha Sharma, who also serves as the government spokesperson, confirmed the committee's formation. Minister Sharma conveyed the Council of Ministers' condolences to all the individuals who lost their lives in this tragic accident.
The investigation committee's primary objective is to uncover the cause of the helicopter crash and provide a detailed report of its findings. The government's swift response in establishing the committee reflects its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of aviation operations within the country.
