Kathmandu:  Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' convened a meeting with the Chief Whips of major political parties in an effort to enhance the efficiency of the Federal Parliament's proceedings.

The discussions took place at the Prime Minister's official residence in Baluwatar. During the meeting, Prime Minister Dahal expressed concern over the lack of progress in advancing 'important' bills introduced by the government and urged all parties involved to take measures to make parliamentary business more effective.

Participating in the discussions were Ramesh Lekhak, Chief Whip of the Nepali Congress; Hitraj Pandey, Chief Whip of CPN (Maoist Centre); and Santosh Pariyar, Chief Whip of Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP).

The delay in processing vital bills introduced by the government was a matter of concern raised by the Prime Minister during the meeting, with a focus on the Truth and Reconciliation Commission Bill related to transitional justice. Pariyar informed the Prime Minister that the Law, Justice, and Human Rights Committee had completed deliberations on the bill through the formation of a sub-committee, and the report-writing process was underway.

Additionally, Chief Whip Pariyar drew attention to the challenge of effectively conducting work due to delays in the election of parliamentary committee presidents. Discussions were also held to address the ongoing obstruction in parliament.

Prior to this meeting, Prime Minister Dahal also held a separate meeting with KP Sharma Oli, Chairperson of the main opposition party, CPN (UML).

The efforts to streamline parliamentary activities and address the delay in important bills demonstrate the government's commitment to enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of the Federal Parliament.

The meetings with the Chief Whips and the main opposition leader are part of a concerted effort to overcome obstacles and promote the smooth functioning of the parliamentary process.
