Kathmandu: Gagan Kumar Thapa, General-Secretary of the Nepali Congress (NC), has called on all parliamentarians and the government to reduce wasteful expenses in the earthquake-affected districts of Jajarkot and Rukum Paschim.

During a meeting with Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' on Sunday, Thapa, a former minister, appealed to the government to deposit the amount allocated for the Parliamentary Development Fund into the Reconstruction Fund for post-quake reconstruction and relief operations.

Thapa suggested that the government provide basic services to the quake-hit people before seeking support from donor agencies and other sources. He emphasized stopping wasteful spending and recommended depositing the Rs 8.2 billion allocated for the Parliamentary Constituency Infrastructure Development Programme into the Reconstruction Fund.

The General-Secretary urged the Prime Minister to prioritize delivering aid to quake survivors based on their needs and urgency.
