Kathmandu: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' has expressed serious concerns regarding the ongoing news surrounding the sale and purchase of Ncell's shares. In response, he has directed relevant authorities to investigate whether the deal adheres to Nepal's existing laws and legal procedures.

According to Prime Minister Prachanda's press coordinator, Surya Kiran Sharma, the PM has instructed authorities to thoroughly assess the legal compliance of the deal. Additionally, the Prime Minister has called for an immediate examination of the status of Nepal's telecommunications sector, the potential impact on Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), and the government's revenue collection resulting from the commercial agreement with Ncell.

The deal in question involves the Malaysian company 'Axiata Group Berhad,' which has decided to sell 80 percent of its shares to Spectrlite UK Limited, a UK-based company. The agreement has raised concerns from various quarters regarding its legitimacy and transparency, particularly as it was reportedly executed without informing the regulatory body.

In response to these concerns, the Public Accounts Committee of the Federal Parliament has initiated communication with various state agencies to inquire about the current status of Ncell's reported business deal. The move underscores the growing scrutiny surrounding the transaction and its potential implications.
