Kaski: Conservationists have urged Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' to focus on the conservation of the Seti River, which flows through the heart of Pokhara bazaar.

Officials from the Seti River Conservation Campaign met with PM Dahal on Sunday, highlighting the urgent need to protect the river from severe human exploitation. The campaign's Chairperson, Hem Poudel, detailed the river's deteriorating condition and proposed the construction of dams at 8 to 10 strategic locations to ensure its long-term conservation.

The campaign has actively demarcated the river and implemented a ban on the excavation of river-bed sands, soils, and other aggregates to prevent further degradation.

In response, PM Dahal expressed his concern over the issue and assured the campaigners of his commitment to initiating conservation efforts for the Seti River. He thanked the campaigners for their dedication and reaffirmed his commitment to taking the necessary steps to protect the river, as shared by Bhuwaneshwor Pokharel, a member of the campaign.

The Seti River, meaning "white river," originates from the Annapurna massif and is one of Pokhara's key tourist attractions.
