Kathmandu: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has reaffirmed the government's commitment to providing relief and rehabilitation support to the survivors of recent disasters in Nepal. Speaking on Sunday at a meeting held at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, Singha Durbar, Oli assured that relief distribution for those affected by monsoon-induced floods, landslides, and inundation will be expedited.
The Prime Minister expressed gratitude to various organizations for their contributions to the Prime Minister's Disaster Relief Fund. He also mentioned that survivors of last year’s earthquake in Jajarkot district have already received the second tranche for the reconstruction of their damaged homes.
The recent disasters, triggered by heavy rainfall on September 27-28, claimed the lives of over 250 people and caused significant damage across 71 local levels, which the government has declared disaster crisis zones. The estimated infrastructure damage exceeds Rs 46 billion.
PM Oli thanked security agencies and supporting organizations for their prompt response and praised their role in mitigating the impact of the disasters.
Contributions to the Disaster Relief Fund were acknowledged during the meeting, with Nepal Oil Corporation donating Rs 30 million, Unilever Company Rs 3 million, Machhapuchchhre Bank Rs 2.5 million, and an organization of former civil employees contributing Rs 100,000.
