Kathmandu: CPN (Maoist Centre) spokesperson Agni Prasad Sapkota has emphasized the need for diplomatic discussions with China regarding the new map issued by China. He announced that this topic would be on the agenda during Prime Minister and party Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda's upcoming visit to China.

Sapkota stated during a press conference held at the party's central office that diplomatic channels should be used to address the issue of China's new map, and that diplomatic initiatives should be intensified. He emphasized that this matter would be a key topic for discussion during the Prime Minister's visit to China.

Furthermore, Sapkota underlined the importance of diplomatic dialogue to address why an important issue like the map was not included in previous discussions.

The backdrop to this issue is the release of China's 2023 standard map by the Ministry of Natural Resources, which, notably, does not acknowledge Nepal's new map as endorsed by the federal Parliament. Instead, it includes Nepal's old map, omitting the updated depiction with a pointed area in the northwest region. This discrepancy has raised diplomatic concerns and calls for dialogue between the two nations.
